revenue-generating feature. About the Role: As a Payroll Tax Lead,
you will play a critical role in driving operational excellence
across our tax function. You’ll serve as a subject-matter expert
and operational owner for key tax workflows, leading day-to-day
execution while also setting standards, improving processes, and
supporting the team through complex and escalated issues. This role
blends hands-on tax operations with leadership, cross-functional
influence, and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for
someone who brings deep tax operations expertise, thrives in
ownership and accountability, and is energized by building durable
systems that scale with growth. Responsibilities: ? Own and lead
core tax operations, including filings, remittances, account
balancing, corrections, and amendments, ensuring accuracy,
timeliness, and compliance across jurisdictions. ? Serve as the
escalation point for complex tax issues, filing tax amendments,
conducting root-cause analysis and driving resolution in
partnership with Customer Service andEngineering, and external
stakeholders. ? Ensure ongoing tax compliance, proactively
monitoring regulatory changes and translating them into updated
filing specifications, controls, and system configurations. ?
Manage tax account reconciliations, identifying discrepancies,
trends, and systemic risks, and driving corrective actions to
prevent recurrence. ? Drive operational improvements, identifying
opportunities to simplify workflows, increase automation, reduce
errors, and improve scalability using data and operational
insights. ? Set standards and best practices for tax operations,
helping document processes, refine controls, and improve audit
readiness. ? Mentor and support team members, providing guidance,
review, and knowledge sharing to elevate overall team capability
and consistency. ? Partner cross-functionally to influence product
decisions, workflow design, and partner-facing experiences that
impact tax compliance and operational efficiency. ? You’ll work
closely with modern payroll and tax platforms, internal tooling,
and data systems to execute and optimize tax operations at scale.
What Success Looks Like: ? Tax filings, remittances, amendments,
and reconciliations are completed accurately and on time, with
minimal escalations. ? Compliance risks are proactively identified
and addressed through updated processes and controls. ? Complex tax
issues are resolved efficiently with clear root-cause analysis and
preventive actions. ? Key tax workflows are documented,
standardized, and continuously improved for accuracy and
scalability. ? Automation and process improvements reduce manual
effort and error rates. ? Cross-functional partners experience the
tax function as responsive, reliable, and solution-oriented. ? Team
members demonstrate increased consistency through clear guidance
and shared best practices. ? The Tax Operations function remains
audit-ready with organized documentation and strong controls. ?
Stakeholders trust the role to drive ownership, accountability, and
sound decision-making in tax operations. Candidate Requirements:
Required ? 5 years of experience in tax operations, payroll tax,
compliance, or a related function, with increasing ownership or
leadership responsibility. ? Hands-on experience with MasterTax,
including filings, amendments, reconciliations, and troubleshooting
in a payroll tax environment. ? Strong working knowledge of tax
filing and remittance processes, corrections, amendments, and
jurisdictional compliance requirements. ? Proven experience
balancing tax accounts and resolving discrepancies in a high-volume
or regulated operational environment. ? Demonstrated ability to
lead through influence, owning outcomes and guiding others without
needing formal people management. ? Track record of identifying
process gaps and implementing operational improvements that scale.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with
comfort navigating ambiguity and complex systems. Work Environment
