Job Description:
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) seeks a dedicated Registered
Nurse to provide high-quality medical care to federal inmates
housed in our secure and humane facilities. This position plays a
critical role in maintaining health standards and aiding in the
rehabilitation process within the correctional healthcare system.
Working at BOP allows healthcare professionals to experience a
unique clinical environment different from traditional healthcare
settings, where multidisciplinary care is integrated with security
needs. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for
incarcerated individuals. Manage healthcare emergencies, including
providing first aid, administering CPR, and other critical
interventions as needed. Document medical histories and treatment
plans according to federal regulations and institutional policies.
Administer medications, track dosages and monitor for side effects
or interactions. Participate in interdisciplinary healthcare teams,
contributing to the ongoing treatment planning and case management
of inmates. Educate inmates about preventive healthcare and disease
management. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and
institutional health and safety regulations in the correctional
environment. Strong clinical skills in a healthcare setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in
potentially stressful situations. Ability to maintain professional
ethics and confidentiality of health records. Proficient in
electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Knowledge of
pharmacological medications, side effects, and withdrawal
protocols. Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Life
Insurance Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of
employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Advanced
Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Certification in
Correctional Health Care (CCHP) is advantageous but not
required.
