Practitioner Role Scope The Hartford HealthCare Heart & Vascular
Institute is seeking an Electrophysiology (EP) Advanced
Practitioner Provider (APP) to work in a progressive and expanding
program utilizing the most advanced, evidence-based science to
diagnose, manage and treat complex cardiac arrhythmias. The Nurse
Practitioner or Physician Assistant will work in a unique hybrid
role utilizing cardiovascular expertise demonstrating advanced
understanding of cardiac electrophysiology, including complex
arrhythmias, cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED), and
cardiac ablations. Keen ability to interpret ECGs, diagnose and
treat cardiac rhythm disorders both in the ambulatory continuum of
care clinic and inpatient hospital setting supporting the central
region ensuring the highest standards of patient outcome and
satisfaction. This role will also include supporting perioperative
electrophysiology services. The advanced practitioner will be
responsible for outpatient ECG interpretation, diagnose, manage,
and optimizing the treatment of patients with complex cardiac
arrhythmias , provide pre-procedure risk stratification for cardiac
EP procedures, prescribe diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
Effectively interpret medical data and develop treatment plans in
collaboration with electrophysiologist. Monitor and adjust
medications for complex cardiac arrhythmias. Perform follow up
assessments to ensure efficacy and optimize evidence - based
treatment plans. Perform routine (CIED) testing and reprogramming
independently or with minimal physician supervision. Review,
interpret and manage CIED remote transmissions. Facilitating
outpatient therapeutic procedures including cardiac implanted
electronic devices-CIEDs- (pacemakers and implantable
defibrillators) and catheter ablation. Provide patient education
including provide treatment options and lifestyle modifications.
The APP will also be an active member of the central region APP
team supporting the inpatient EP consultation service at The
Hospital of Central Connecticut and MidState Medical Center. This
role will provide EP clinical support to medical, critical care,
progressive care, perioperative and emergency patient management.
The APP must exhibit critical thinking interpreting ECGs, and
telemetry, identifying cardiac arrhythmia, recommend evidence-based
interventions independently with minimal supervision. Collaborate
with inpatient multi-disciplinary team including
Cardiologist/Intensivist/Hospitalists/Medical Staff to facilitate
cardiac arrhythmia interventions, diagnostic testing and provide
patient throughput based on plan of care goals. Collaboration with
Electrophysiologist on all problematic cases. Facilitate transfer
for those patients requiring high level of care. Interrogate,
interpret, and manage inpatient implanted cardiac device
interrogation in the cute care setting. Initiate patient care
meetings with the health care team to revise the plan of care as
the patient’s condition warrants . The APP will also be responsible
for supporting EP peri-operative services providing pre and
post-procedure orders, interval H&P, review pre-op labs,
testing, discharge instructions and limitations and collaborate all
concerning findings or potential problematic issues with the
referring Electrophysiologist. APP must have a basic understanding
of EP procedures include cardiac device implants and cardiac
ablation. Manage post-operative complications . Skill to
independently implant loop recorders, or the willingness to learn.
Basic EP procedural first assist skills preferred, although a
highly motivated APP, with adaptability, quick-learning ability,
and proactive attitude toward acquiring new competencies
encouraged. Participate in total quality management to positively
affect patient and system outcomes to improve care. This
opportunity will involve working in multiple locations throughout
CT. Stay updated with the advancements in electrophysiology through
continuing education. Main Location: Hospital of Central
Connecticut and Midstate Medical Center Other location: Central

Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant /
Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred Licensed, or eligible
to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant / Advanced Practice
Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut Certification
or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or National
Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
through AACN or ANCC. Cardiology experience preferred -
Electrophysiology would be preference. Cardiac device management
