Planning and Research The University of New Haven, founded on the
Yale campus in 1920, is a private, coeducational university that
has been recognized by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World
Report for academic excellence. Located between New York City and
Boston in the shoreline city of West Haven, the University is a
diverse and vibrant community of more than 7,500 students from
across the globe. Reporting to the Assistant Director of
Institutional Research, the Research Analyst is responsible for
coordinating and overseeing the institution's vast number of
internal and external cyclical and ad hoc reporting requirements.
This position will use the department's data warehouse to provide
support to the IR office and to administrative and academic offices
to help fulfill their reporting needs and promote institutional
planning efforts campus-wide. They will also be central to helping
the Assistant Director of Institutional Research build a
self-service reporting strategy that can ensure that all campus
offices have direct access to information. The research analyst
will also be at the forefront of the data governance initiative to
help standardize data definitions and work with promoting data
literacy to all offices on campus.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of 12 to
15 state reports (depending on reporting year) and nine federal
reports by completing reports or coordinating the completion of
reports by other IR staff and administrative offices.
- With the assistance of other IR staff, compile and coordinate
the publication and distribution of a new University Fact Book,
milestone budget and enrollment reports, and other cyclical reports
for the internal campus community.
- Provide analytical and reporting support for standing and ad
hoc committees (faculty and administrative), and support the
implementation of the institution's strategic plan, as
assigned.
- Working with other IR staff and the Office of Information
Technology, provide maintenance and support to the continued
construction and development of the IR office's data
warehouse.
- Help build out an internal IR office website/webpage to share
information and reports with key members of the institution's
administrative and academic leadership. Work with leadership to
respond to needs for strategic interactive data visualization
reports.
- Assist in the administration, maintenance, and analytic support
of all external surveys conducted by the IR office (i.e., NSSE,
CIRP)
- Participate in general office activities in support of
institutional research projects, such as analysis of data,
completion of required reporting, distribution of reports, and
consultation to staff and faculty.
- Present data outputs and analysis, either quantitative or
qualitative, in a user-friendly manner and work effectively and
proficiently under demands associated with multiple deadlines.
- Stay informed on the current issues and methodologies in
institutional research and assessment, and maintain technical
skills through environmental scanning and participation in regional
and national organizations, conferences and professional
development workshops.
- Engage in, support and promote all data governance activities
at the University of New Haven. Assist in the construction and
maintenance of a data dictionary for the institution.
- Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the
position Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree or equivalent from
an accredited institution, preferably in statistics, mathematics,
or one of the social sciences and two (2) years of institutional
research or higher education experience.Preferred:Master's degree
or equivalent from an accredited institution, preferably in data
science, data analytics, statistics, mathematics, or one of the
social sciences, or graduate level education or four (4) years of
institutional research experience.Demonstrated proficiency in
utilizing computer applications, including SQL database programming
software, data visualization software (such as Power BI or
Tableau), statistical analysis (like SPSS, SAS, or R), spreadsheet
and word-processing (MS Office including Access and Visual Basic),
and experience working with transactional data software (Colleague,
Banner, or Jenzabar). Preferred proficiency in other higher
educational data platforms such as SLATE, PowerFAIDS, or EAB
Navigate.Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the
diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic
background of college students and employees.Knowledge and
Abilities
- Ability to plan, organize, conduct, and participate in
analytical studies using research methodology in an educational
setting.
- Knowledge of and experience in database design and software
applications as related to research Interpretation and
analysis.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse
faculty, staff, student, and community population in an
administrative position.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team
setting.
- Ability to perform duties independently with limited
supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in
writing.
- Demonstrated ability to produce effective and meaningful
reports/documents.
- Ability to interpret, articulate, and communicate a variety of
regulations, policies, and procedures.
